Guest Mix: Hozac Records’ Inspirations
Hozac Records started out as a zine that flourished into a ridiculously badass record label. Since 2006, Todd Novak and co. have been putting out some truly stellar releases — their roster includes Box Elders, Davila 666, Dum Dum Girls, Jacuzzi Boys, Wax Idols and Rayon Beach. The mix he made for us today consists of all of the inspirations behind the founding of Hozac, and the bands that got him into this mess in the first place. 1. Unnatural Axe, “Summertime”
This is one of the first ‘Killed By Death’ type songs from the original series that really sunk in, it’s got that perfect mid-tempo unsettling punk riff and that lackadaisical snarl in the vocals that just oozes everything great about the era and especially Boston (one of the top US cities for punk in the 1970s) during the summer.
One of my favorite GB mixes so far. Thanks Todd!
